Fabrication of Li1+xAlxGe2-x(PO4) thin films by sputtering for solid electrolytes

SEM images of the lagp hot sputtered films after annealing at various temperatures

Dr Taybeh Mousavi, Chris DoerrerBen Jagger, Professor Susie Speller and Professor Chris Grovenor, with collaborators from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and in assocation with The Faraday Institution, explored how to deposit substantially dense LAPG  thin films with high ionic conductivities, without flaws.

They studied the crystallization process using in-situ c-Synchrotron and high resolution SEM, and optmised the sputtering parameters to fabric the high ioninc conductivity of the LAGP layers.  The total ionic conductivity values achieved were ˃10-4 S cm-1 at 20oc, and the activation energies as low as 0.31 eV.
