Synthetic tuning of the quantum properties of open-shell radicaloids

A representation of the open shell radicaloids

Professor Lapo Bogani, Federico Lombardi and Dimitris Alexandropoulos, in collaboration with researchers from CFAED Dresden, Leibniz-Institut fur Polymerforschung Dresden, State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry Hong Kong and the Oxford Department of Inorganic Chemistry, considered how to determine the structure-quantum properties relations of open-shell molecular radicaloids and graphene.

In this work, the researchers synthesised and characterised a family of radicaloids and explored how molecular design leads to quantum memory loss.  The results are crucial for the synthesis of efficient quantum units and contribute to the fundamental understanding of spin decoherence in graphen-related materials, opening the path to multifunctional quantum materials.
