Key principles and operational practices for improved nanotechnology environmental exposure assessment

Flowchart for Engineered Nanomaterials Lifecycle

Engineered Nanomaterials Lifecycle

The Nanomaterial Fate and Speciation in the Environment project (NanoFASE.eu), including Dr Alison Crossley from the Oxford Materials Characterisation Service, have published in Nature Nanotechnology a review article developing knowledge, practical considerations and key principles needed to support exposure assessment for engineered nanomaterials for regulatory and research applications.

The paper identifies a set of ten emerging key principles that offer a sound foundation for improving engineered nanomaterial specific exposure modelling to support environmental risk assessment, and  how these principles may be applied in exposure modelling tools applicable at different environmental risk assessment tiers for simple to complex assessments.
