In situ and operando characterisation of Li metal-solid electrolyte interfaces

An illustration of the methods utilised during the experiment

This paper, published in Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science, provides a perspective on the current state of in situ and characterisation approaches towards understanding interfacial processes and mechanisms for failure of Li metal electrochemical cell performance.

The authors present their opinions on the current state of such techniques, while highlighting the existing limitations and scope of the methods.  They also endeavour to present opportunities for future research into developing and building on existing approaches to better evaluate the Li metal-solid electrolyte interface so as to guide the appropriate choice of materials to further enable solid-state batteries.
