Each year, the Physics and Materials Science Departments collaborate on a full day of workshops and talks aimed at Y12 students. During this fun-filled yet instructive activity day, participants will be given the opportunity to carry out experiments in both departments and will learn more about these exciting subjects.
If you are studying Maths and Physics at A level (or equivalent) and are interested in Materials Science and Physics come along to Oxford University to find out more!
The Draft Programme for 10 December 2019 gives an outline of the day's typical activities.
(Due to the pandemic, this event did not run in 2020 and ran online in 2021)
This event is open to high-achieving Year 12 students from UK schools who are studying Maths and Physics at A-level (or equivalent). This event is intended for students who enjoy science and who would like to find out more about Physics and Materials Science at university.
Places are limited so booking is essential. Since these events are very popular we ask you to limit the number of students from a single school to 6 on any one day. If you are wanting to bring more students please contact us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
We request, where possible, that at least half of the students in your group identify as female. You may wish to consider working with another local school if this could be a challenge.
Priority will be given to students from schools with little or no history of applications to Oxford.
If you have any questions, please contact us by emailing email@example.com.
How to book
You can register for the 2022 Y12 Materials & Physics Day by completing this form. Applications will close on the 26th October 2022 and we will inform all those who applied whether they have a place on the event by 1st November.
As this event is during the school day, we request that registrations for students are completed by a teacher.
As we are asking for group applications through teachers rather than individual student registrations, student groups will need to be accompanied by an adult who can be responsible for their attendance on the day and act as a point of contact. This can be a teacher or other school staff member, or a designated parent if staff are unable to accompany.
