Congratulations to Dr Theo Hobson, a postdoctoral associate in the Bonilla Lab, for the award of a highly competitive EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Dr Hobson's Fellowship project aims to leverage cutting-edge in situ X-ray and UV spectroscopy to advance understanding of the interfaces between light-absorbing semiconductors and functional current-extraction nanolayers. This analysis is intended to help minimise operational energy losses in multijunction tandem solar cells through optimised fabrication methods.
As Dr Hobson says:
"Sustainable energy is an enduring passion of mine, and I'm hugely excited by the potential for in-situ X-ray spectroscopy to dig into the nanoscale dynamics of interface formation during solar cell fabrication.
I hope my new insights can draw on the established understanding of silicon photovoltaics to support emerging technologies".
