"I'm delighted that my contribution to superconducting materials research has been recognised with this award, and I would like to thank my fantastic research group who have really done all the hard work".
Professor Susie Speller
Many congratulations to Professor Susie Speller, who has been awarded the Institute of Physics' 2024 Pippard Prize. This is formal recognition by the selection panel of the highly significant contributions Professor Speller has made to the field's understanding of a wide range of issues in superconductivity and superconducting materials through her meticulous experimental measurements.
The award also recognises Professor Speller's many notable contributions to the superconductivity research community - her recent studies on the effect of radiation damage on high-temperature superconductors for fusion reactors were highlighted by the judges as being particularly important.
The Pippard Prize is named in honour of Professor Sir Brian Pippard, with the kind permission of Professor Pippard's family. It is awarded annually by the IoP Superconductivity Group to a scientist working in the UK who has made a significant contribution to the field of superconductivity in the last few years, with particular emphasis given to recent work. The winner is chosen by a panel of electors appointed by the IoP Superconductivity Group Committee.
