We are seeking Expressions of Interest from UK-based policy professionals working on any of the UK Government's missions, for the opportunity to collaborate with us through an OPEN Visiting Fellowship.

The Oxford Policy Engagement Network (OPEN) Visiting Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to engage with researchers across the University of Oxford, to explore fresh perspectives on today's most pressing challenges.  Here in Materials we are seeking policy professionals to help us tackle challenges of mutual interest.  This will also help you to build your network across the wider University.  Relevant areas for policy and implementation within Materials Science are:

  • nanomaterials for electronics, energy and sustainable manufacturing;
  • sustainable energy solutions, including solar, batteries and hydrogen;
  • photonic and quantum technologies for computing, communications and imaging;
  • structural alloys for nuclear and aerospace environments;
  • biomaterials for healthcare applications such as drug delivery and implants.

We pioneer the design and manufacture of next-generation materials by revealing and manipulating the microstructural mechanisms that govern their performance.  Collaboration is central to our mission.  In recent years we have established particularly strong links with industry and are keen to identify a Visiting Fellow who could work with us to create a step change in our work with policy professionals in, and outside, Government.

Interested?  Submitting an Expression of Interest is as simple as completing this online form before 21 November 2025.
