"I am passionate about building up the inclusive nature of this university and improving students' experiences".

Joseph Fihosy

Very many congratulations to Joseph Fihosy, who is the 2025-2026 Materials ED&I Fellow within the Mathematical, Physics and Life Sciences Division.  Joseph is studying for his doctorate in this department, and has already developed key skills for this important role, having previously mentored for two new Black Academic Futures scholars and been a part of the special working group in the department dedicated to Public and Community Engagement with Research.

Joseph explained that he has a clear vision for his new role:

"I'd like to research how different disabilities, neurodivergence and cultural backgrounds can factor into the user experience navigating websites, and how they can be designed with this knowledge in mind.

I will also consider how departmental websites can be either intimidating or approachable to young people from marginalised groups".
