ITV News: celebrating LGBT+ in STEM

On 26 February 2026 Dr Clara Barker was featured in a film by ITV Meridian News.

 

Focusing on LGBT+ people in the STEM* subjects, the feature included a quick demonstration by Dr Barker of applied superconductivity. using a model train and railway.  Dr Barker was very positive about her experiences as a trans scientist, stating that since joining this department:

"... all of a sudden I felt so much more comfortable being in the workplace, so I was working harder ... before I always felt I was pretending ... but when I came here it just felt natural to be myself, and that meant that I was happier in my work".
