It is a great honour to be named on the Forbes '30 under 30' list this year. It coincided with the completion of my DPhil viva at the end of last year, and also with the successful fundraising within our company, so it certainly feels like a lot is happening all at once!"
Dr Chan (CTO, Matoha Instrumentation Limited)
Many congratulations to Dr Hans Chan, formerly of the Quantum Technology Theory group here in Oxford, who is featured in the 2025 Forbes list of '30-under-30'. This is in recognition of his work as the CTO and co-founder of the highly successful green technology company Matoha Instrumentation Limited. Matoha manufactures and sells scanners that can instantly identify the material composition of garments and textiles, primarily for the purposes of waste sorting and recycling. The technology combines NIR spectroscopy and AI to achieve this feat.
Hans told us that:
"Our naming on the '30-under-30' list is a recognition of the great work our team has been doing in enabling sustainability and circular economies worldwide by unlocking material identification and sorting, which are critical steps for recycling.
I hope that the validation that comes from this will add more credibility to what we say and do, in addition to being a scientist from the Department of Materials at Oxford'.
