The Keith Prout Crystallography Fund

Grants may be made to graduate students and postdoctoral workers within 5 years of obtaining their PhD in order to promote work in crystallography. Travel grants are awarded up to £300 depending on the destination and cost, and awards are usually limited to £300 in any two year period.  Applications for conference travel support are normally conditional on the applicant submitting an abstract to the conference. 

Applications are particularly welcomed for the International Union of Crystallography Congress in 2017 and exceptionally for this meeting grants up to £400 may be made if the application is received by 17 March 2017.

Enquiries and applications should be sent by e-mail to the chairman of the management committee of the fund, Prof. Pete Nellist. ( at least 2 months before the proposed visit.  The application should contain:

1.            A description of the reason for travel, for example the name and a short description of the conference along with the anticipated costs.

2.            How the travel will be of benefit to the applicant.

3.            The current status of the applicant within the university, e.g. D Phil (with year of study) or Post-Doctoral Researcher.
