Post-doctoral Research Vacancies

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Manufacture of Nanocomposites for
Electromagnetic Applications
Grade 7 / Salary in the range: £29,249 to £32,901 p.a. / Vacancy ID: 107340
We are looking for a postdoctoral research scientist with experience of processing of polymer composites to develop new manufacturing technologies for graded dielectric and magnetic nanocomposites and metamaterials. The post is available for up to three years, starting as soon as possible, and will be based in Oxford.
The University of Oxford, together with Queen Mary and Exeter universities, is a partner in EPSRC funded project “The Quest for Ultimate Electromagnetics using Spatial Transformations (QUEST)” that aims to bridge the gap between spatial transformation theory and the ability to manufacture and test practical metamaterials for microwave and other electromagnetic applications.
It is essential that applicants should have experience of processing of composites as well as the development of processing routes for new materials, along with hands-on experience of scanning electron microscopy, UV-vis-IR spectroscopy and permittivity/permeability characterisation. Applicants should possess at the time of appointment a PhD in materials science or a closely-related subject such as engineering, materials chemistry, or physics. Experience of working in an interdisciplinary environment would be an advantage, and willingness to undertake travel to QUEST partners will be expected. Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Patrick Grant (email: patrick.grant@materials.ox.ac.uk).
The closing date for applications is midday on Monday 29 April 2013 with interviews currently planned for 24 May 2013.
Applications for this post are to be made online (vacancy reference 107340).
