Summary of Interests

My interests are in carbon materials, adsorption and porosity, composites and surface science.

Current work focuses on:

  • Modification by molecular physisorption of electron transport in graphene and other carbon systems for novel sensors.
  • Use of photoelectron spectroscopy to study structure and property of 3D graphene domains in carbon materials.
  • Effects of surface nanostructure and chemical heterogeneity in carbon/graphene systems on resulting surface forces and molecular potentials.
  • Adsorption and porosity in carbons.
  • Biomaterials and biophysics including: the adsorption of water and proteins at biosurfaces; cell attachment and proliferation.
  • Development of biomedical implants and prosthetics.
  • The use of surface science, thermodynamics and surface engineering to understand and control surface reactivity and interface formation.
  • Use of surface science to solve industrial adhesion problems.
  • Application of porous solids in separation and filtration.
